The recipes in this book originate from the time-honoured Thai dishes that Thanphuying Mahidhorn (Kleeb Krairiksh) cooked for her family over 100 years ago, Thanphuying was a Thai court lady with royal Laotian heritage dating back to the Lanxang Kingdom of Vientiane (now part of Laos). She had excellent culinary skills; her creative cuisine is a combination of "palace-cuisine" with Laotian and Thai regional dishes, supplemented with dishes that she adapted from other Asian and European culture. Her dishes were well regarded among contemporary aristocratic families, and then by successive generations of culinary enthusiasts who seek out rare and extraordinary food.
